The conch shell plays an important role in Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism and Feng Shui (the last being the guidelines to arrange and equip the home or work place harmoniously).

The conch shell has an important place in Feng Shui as it is believed to bring benefits. Provides a sense of peace and comfort to a home as well as protection. According to Feng Shui, placing a conch shell in the south corner of the living room is believed to boost the homeowner’s popularity and reputation. Place smooth conch shells in the kitchen to create energy which is harmonious and family oriented. Keep spiny conch shells on the window sill to attract energy that protects the home from bad luck and harm. Keep a basket filled with conch shells on a table near the front door for a successful and rewarding career.
Tibetan Buddhism
The conch shell is commonly used to “summon together religious assemblies.” It is also used to store “holy water” and as a musical instrument in puja ceremonies.
What is a Puja?
Puja (literally an offering) is a Meditation Ritual on one of the Bodhisattvas or Buddhas. It is a ceremony in which prayers are offered to the Buddhas to request their blessings or invoke their help. There are different Pujas for different purposes in our lives. There are Pujas for meditation practice, purification, removing obstacles, long life, death, illness, business, and so on. Pujas are performed to avert and clear the three types of obstacles, conditions that prevent us from achieving our worldly and spiritual goals.

The conch shell is used to expel evil spirits and prevent natural disasters. Some even use it “to frighten away poisonous creatures.” And, as explained above, the conch shell is used also in Pujas.
