Chenrezig (Tibetan) or Avalokiteshvara (Sanskrit) is the Buddha of great compassion, of limitless compassion towards all living beings. Chenrezig made the strong vow not to return to Nirvana until he had liberated all sentient beings and freed them from suffering. He is seen as the Protector of Tibet and his mantra OM MANI PADME HUM is the most famous Tibetan mantra.
